Does it need onboarding?

Monday is for open questions. This one: does Camaïeu need onboarding?

Most of the app explains itself. You open it, a picture is already moving, the controls at the bottom show their current choice and expand when tapped. Tap a color and the picture recolors. Nothing to read, nothing to set up.

A soft egg-shaped composition in layered blues on a dark teal background, with a row of ten color dots and a few small controls in a bar at the bottom.

and light

Two things are hard to discover, though:

Compose mode. You can scale and move things around: the picture itself, and the timer or breathing ring. It sits behind a small viewfinder button in the session panels, and nothing hints that the layout is yours to change.

The breathing graph. The curve that shows your breathing pattern is not just a drawing. You can drag it to change the timing of each phase.

So the question is what to do about those two. Nothing, and trust people to poke around. A one-time hint the first time you reach each place. Or a short first-launch tour, which feels heavy for an app whose whole point is staying out of the way.

If you have an opinion, reply through the form below.

Next: Wednesday, the pacer in motion.
