Data collection

Etch does not collect any data. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no ads, and no third-party services. Your cards, labels, and review history are stored on your device.

On-device AI

All AI features — turning spoken notes into cards, generating cards from clipped text, and suggesting labels — run entirely on your iPhone using Apple Intelligence. What you say, clip, or write is never sent to me or to any third-party AI service.

Microphone and speech

Voice capture uses the microphone only while you are recording, and transcription happens on the device. Recordings are transcribed and discarded — audio is never stored or transmitted. When you add a dictation language, your device downloads the corresponding speech model directly from Apple; this is a system download governed by Apple's privacy policy.

iCloud sync

If you are signed into iCloud, your cards sync across your devices through your own private iCloud database. This data belongs to your Apple account: it is encrypted in transit, only your devices can read it, and I have no access to it. If you are not signed into iCloud, the app simply keeps everything locally.

Network

The app itself makes no network connections of its own. The only network activity comes from Apple system services: optional iCloud sync and one-time speech-model downloads, both described above.
