Which family rides free?
The paywall rule was set before any paywall code existed: gate range and permanence, never the core experience. Every session mode — ambient, breathing, focus — stays free. The subscription buys more generative range: more shape families, a wider slice of the deliberately small palette, more moods. It'll be a simple subscription — monthly or yearly, with a real free trial — and if it lapses, nothing you've saved is taken away.
Which means the free tier ships with exactly one shape family, and that family has to carry the whole app on its own. Three candidates, one video, side by side in the same hue and mood so the families compete on movement alone: cell — soft organisms breathing at one gesture per loop; gear — a meshed train of wheels turning in step; wave — stacked bands rolling toward a still horizon. (Wave landed in the release build on Saturday, precisely so this question offers only real options.)
Which would you keep, if the others cost money? Reply on Bluesky or in the Shipaton Discord. The answer ships in this month's release.
Next post Wednesday: a few seconds of motion.
